Hi all! For those of you who follow me on social media, you’ll know that I chose my focus word for the year. For 2020, the word I’m using is PERSEVERE.
I learned to do this in 2018 by listening to the That Smart Hustle podcast by Kristen Martin. I THINK it’s Episode #23 if you’re interested. I found it on Google Podcasts, but I know you can also find it on iTunes and sound cloud.
Essentially, the idea is that you choose one word, phrase, or song, and use that to focus your intentions throughout the entire year. Last year, I was feeling all over the place and I couldn’t see or decide what direction I was going in my writing career and in other aspects of my life. I chose the word FOCUS in 2018 because I needed to figure out what my priorities were, and where to best utilize my time and effort.
2018 felt so stagnant in my writing because it was a step back from everything I was working on to work on figuring myself out. When things got rough, and especially when the year dragged on and I felt at a loss, I again brought my thoughts to that one word, focus, and it helped me remember and clarify what I was trying to accomplish.
2019 was all about that lady boss hustle. I have a lot of half-finished projects which I intend to give you all an update on very soon (maybe next weekend)? I want to work hard on them and finish some drafts so that I can finally get a worthwhile piece of fiction out into the open.
In 2020, I am going to persevere.
