Hello Lovelies, and welcome back to the blog. We’re ending out another quarter, so it’s time for another goals recap post.
If you remember from last time, I set some goals at the beginning of Q4. As a refresher, they looked like this.

Now, my Trello board looks like this.

Not bad, right? A decent amount of completed tasks, plus some extras added in. Let’s go over it in more detail.
Writing – 79/106 Goals Completed – 75%
I was able to get a lot accomplished this quarter. I didn’t write the first draft of the first WiB book, and there’s a reason. Or rather, multiple reasons, but the biggest one being that I have about 200 words written in the first chapter, and because I’m writing in a completely different point of view than I’ve written in previously, I’m questioning every single thing I’m writing. The tense is hard to get right and it’s going way slower than I anticipated. This is, however, the exact direction it needs to go, so I am working through a new challenge.
Business – 15/50 Goals Completed – 30%
For maybe the first time ever I actually tackled some of the “business” category goals that have been sitting on my goals list. It’s only 30% completion. This is definitely not huge by any standard, but it’s a single category that’s seen a 30% improvement over previous quarters. I haven’t queried near enough agents. Some people expect over 100 manuscript rejections and some up to 200 manuscript rejections before they decide that manuscript is no longer worth querying. I am nowhere near those numbers. I don’t want 200 rejections. No one does. But I only need ONE yes.
Marketing – 20/29 Goals Completed – 69%
Did you know I started a podcast? On a whim one weekend afternoon I started a podcast on my phone with no equipment or experience at all. I did not plan that, but now that I have a podcast, you can find it on most major podcasting services including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts. Plus I kept up with my weekly blogs so that feels important.
Travel, Training, Meetings – 1/3 Goals Completed – 33%
I don’t know how I dropped the ball on my February and March meetings for my local writing group but somehow, my job and life have just been extremely busy. The weather is turning good and workload has picked up. I am usually better about keeping track of appointments, but especially ones I care about, so I’m truly baffled by this one.
Quarter 4 Overall – 115/188 Goals Completed – 61%
This time last year, I was so burned out on everything that I did nothing for an entire quarter. While 61% doesn’t seem like an accomplishment rating to celebrate about, it’s progress during my busy season at work and where there wasn’t any progress a year before. I’m taking the wins where I can get them and counting this quarter as a job well done.
How was your quarter? How many goals did you set and how many of them were you able to accomplish? Let us know in the comments below!
